David Corenswet Pushing Limits for Superman Physique

David Corenswet knew that embodying Superman wasn’t just about nailing Clark Kent’s personality—it meant transforming physically into the iconic superhero. During a press conference in Manila, he shared how he committed to an intense fitness journey, entirely by choice.

“James Gunn didn’t pressure me,” Corenswet said. “It was my decision. Superman doesn’t look like a string bean, so I bulked up fast.”

He trained 5–6 days a week, 3–4 hours per session, with shoulder presses becoming a daily ritual.

David Corenswet Mental Toll and Emotional Isolation

Beyond gym time, Corenswet also had to follow strict meal plans, monitor digestion, and prioritize sleep. But while sculpting his body, he encountered emotional challenges—especially during the 2023 actors’ strike when communication with the crew halted.

Despite being surrounded by people in gyms, he felt isolated. “It was incredibly lonely. When you push for that kind of transformation, it’s just you versus yourself,” he admitted.

Finding a Deeper Connection to Superman

Ironically, that solitude made him feel closer to the character. “Superman feels alone on Earth. He longs to connect. I started understanding that,” Corenswet explained.

He reflected, “You can be around crowds and still feel empty. That’s a very human experience, and now I share that with Kal-El.”

A New Era of Superman Begins

Superman will be the first film in the DC Universe reboot led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. The story sees Superman (David Corenswet) face off against genius villain Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult), while navigating moral dilemmas and his relationship with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan).

The film is set to hit theaters worldwide in early July.
